Glen Ryder Trail to Taggard Peak

I'd heard of a steep trail in Abbotsford that some call Abby's grouse grind. This Saturday afternoon, we decided to check it out, not the whole way up but to see what it is and if this is a good trail to tackle one day. Surprisingly, the Saturday afternoon turned out to be pretty hot and the steep, dusty trail made it pretty difficult to enjoy a new trail. We haven't had many rains this summer and as a result, this trail turned into a pretty dusty, and in some places slippery, steep hike. Since we only got to the trail head at around 3PM, the plan was to hike for about an hour just to get a feel for the trail and do a bit of a workout. This is exactly what we did and since the first hour of the hike is very steep, there was a lot of sweating going on! I may have to come back later this fall and try to get all the way to the peak. The forest is going to be beautiful in a month or so and at the same time the temperature will drop down to an enjoyable level.
To get there from vancouver, take Hwy #1 East all the way past Sumas. Exit on Whatcom Rd and go across highway turning right on N Parallel Rd. The trailhead is located right past Abbotsford Fish & Game Club. You should be able to see an opening on the left side of the road and a trail going up! Here are a few pictures we took:
