The New Year
Happy New Year!
As you've probably noticed, we have slowed down in 2014, not many hiking articles have been posted, and even less of any other activities that we love doing. Both myself and my dog Rico have had bad knee injuries. Rico just had a surgery done a couple of weeks ago and now recovering. After my first knee injury, which I almost recovered from, I had a second one, which resulted in some serious damage and now requires urgent attention of a surgeon. And unfortunately now I have to hold back on all our activities until we figure out the next step. In the meantime, I'll finish transferring and uploading pictures from our old articles and restore all the missing links.
Hey everyone! Just wanted to give you a quick update on what's going on with website. We were not able to transfer all posted images with website transfer and thus need to upload what has been stored on local drive. As a result, some of the older articles still have picture links broken. As you probably noticed, we have managed to upload quite a bit over the last couple of weeks but there's still plenty to go! At least most of the articles have been restored!
We've finally completed the main steps of migrating our Joomla-based website to the latest version. As you can see, some of the items are still not working properly and will take a bit more time to get up and running. Please report any broken links (I am expecting still quite a few) or functions of the website that do not work properly. We will be spending rest of the weekend updating and bringing original content back.
Thank you again for your patience, we really appreciate it! GoAroundGlobe.com team!
We had big plans for the August long weekend at Campbell River on Vancouver Island. And although not everything worked out the way we planned, overall, it turned out to be a pretty busy and exciting weekend. Our hike didn't quite work out because we either didn't find a trail head or instructions to get there were incorrect and not up to date. We spend a few hours driving back and forth a logging road until we decide that driving forward was impossible in my Explorer. After another 40 minutes bushwhacking, we simply turned back and went to see Elk Falls instead. By the way, we tried to get to Mt. Kitchener. Below are a few pictures from camping, hiking and the waterfalls:
This was the first time after living in Vancouver for so long that we went as far on Hwy 99 as Pemberton. Although it's not really that far- only a couple of hours away- we just never managed to drive in this direction past Whistler. We reserved camping at Nairn Falls Provincial Park and decided to explore the local area for good trails. Joffre Lakes came up as one of the popular hikes and it also seemed like a good, not too long hike we could do after not hiking for a while due to all kinds of reasons and injuries :). What we didn't know about this hike was a very pleasant surprise at the end of the trail!
